The man behind the scenes … the founder of DFW Surf, Tyler Marshall, is one of the leading pioneers of inland surf sports- wakesurfing and stand up paddleboarding. He is one of the main reasons why these watersports came to be and continue to thrive in the state of Texas. For Tyler it all start around 2006 when he fell in love with the new sport of wakesurfing while studying for his Masters degree at TCU (M.T.S- Masters in Theological Studies). Tyler went on to help found Austin Surf Company, the Texas Wake Surf School, wakesurfinglessons.com, DFW SURF and Boarders Magazine. In 2007, Tyler produced the first ever wakesurfing contest in the state of Texas called Land Locked Surf Fest at Texas Mastercraft near Fort Worth. Since then he has continued to help grow the sport through classes, lessons and local surf contests and via the DFW Surf Club- a unique watersports club experience in North Texas.
Coach Tyler-
Since 2007, Tyler has taught hundreds of individuals how to wakesurf, progress and even compete on a national level. He is the head coach for several big names in the sport of wakesurfing including current ranked #3- Perry Morrison, Nationally ranked Centurion Boats team rider- Jarrett Scribner, US Nationals 2nd Place Claire Morgan, TX State Champ Nate Richard and Juniors Champ Luke Johnson. He travels locally and nationally for private lessons, coach training and he continues to facilitate the growth of youth watersports with his summer camps.
Athlete
Tyler has been a top SUP athlete for years notable for a 4th place finish at the World Paddle Championships- Florida- 2015. 1st Place- Waterman’s Paddle for Humanity, Bambu Bash, Cinco De Mayo Pro/Am, Coldorado Classic. 2nd Place at San Diego’s Hano Hano Huki. Tyler is the only board sponsored athlete in the state thanks to Florida based YOLO Board. His other sponsors include Garden of Life and Vernor Surfboards.
